Our core business is game development focusing on our own original IP and story driven content. Partnering with experts in the film and VFX industry, our goal is to deliver near blockbuster AAA production quality with the uniqueness found in indie game companies.
Dev Null Studios is a licensed developer for the Nintendo and PlayStation platforms.
We’re an independently owned digital entertainment studio based out of Toronto, Canada. Our primary focus is on content driven games targeting consoles as well as handheld portable consoles with a special focus on R&D. Whether it’s a JRPG, tactical strategy game or an action RPG, we LOVE games and anime so that’s what we decided to do!
We originally began operations as a mercenary group of ninja developers handling covert and clandestine projects for clients but have since moved onto working on the development of our own IP.
With partners from the film and animation industry, our goal is to deliver the Hollywood blockbuster and AAA game experience with the uniqueness of a small indie studio. Why? Because we can!!

MEET BUDD ROYCE LAM, DEV NULL STUDIOS FOUNDER & CEO
Budd Royce Lam is an industry professional with close to 20 years of experience in technology and entertainment. He founded Dev Null Studios in 2012 as a way to merge his passion for video games and his skills as an entrepreneur. Budd bridges the technological, managerial and creative gaps between the various arms of the entertainment industry by using entrepreneurship to apply his expertise in the fields of video games, music, and film/animation.
No stranger to start-up companies, Budd, mentored by Jennifer Wood, a former member of the venture capitalist reality show Dragons Den (Shark Tank in the US), founded BRL Guitarworks in 2007, a hot rod guitar shop and the Canadian distributor representing global companies such as Hipshot Products(USA), Caparison Guitars(Japan), Bare Knuckle Pickups (UK), AMT Electronics (Russia) and Lundgren Pickups (Sweden). Other achievements include founding the official online community for Caparison Guitars in 2007 (now sold to The Caparison Guitar Company, UK), the only officially recognized online community for DiMarzio guitar products in 2008, as well as the game jam group Team Whisky Tango Foxtrot in 2012, where he helps mentor young up and coming game designers and developers both locally and abroad.
Budd holds a BCom from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, and studied computer networking, as well as video game design and development at Seneca and triOS colleges in Toronto. Ever ambitious, he is one of the internationally select few earning CORe Credentials through Harvard University’s (Cambridge, MA) Harvard Business School interactive online initiative, HBX.
He is a former EC-Council CEH and is a proud member of the IEEE, IGDA and AF&AM Acacia Lodge No. 430.
We are changing upstream service providers at our datacenter. Some services may be affected. Everything should be fully operational within a few days. If you run into any problems please contact your account manager. Cheers, Budd
Wednesday 07 OCT 15 Dev Null Studios receives an employer appreciation award from triOS College in recognition and appreciation of our on going support of triOS students and graduates. While we do take in interns and recruit from various sources, we do have a lot of folks from triOS here.
We finally finalized the logo that Xiao delivered a couple of days ago. While we already had a logo/emblem for the project, I felt that we could use one that better reflects the direction we’re going.
Here’s a sneak peek at what we’re working on in the Abyssian Knights project. These aren’t the actual characters but rather test models used for testing the shaders in Unreal Engine 4. We’re working hard to not only get characters to look like 2d anime but feel like 2d anime. It’s actually more work than
I was going through my archive of stuff and found a photo of an old project we did in conjuction with our friends at Trixter Canada. We were asked to tale on a quick project to build out an interactive VR project for the promotion of the Disney film Tomorrowland starring George Clooney. New project day! After some discussions, we here at Dev Null will begin production on a game title based on an original IP written by our partners at Trixter Canada. We can’t go into details but expect something awesome!
We’d like to welcome Trixter Canada as our newest partner. As experts in the world of VFX and Hollywood film/television production, they’ll be assisting us with art, animation and writing/editorial. This brings us one step closer to bringing players indie games with production levels closer to that of a feature film or television series.
Just finished testing out a basic motion capture rig here at the studio. It’s a shared solution but it means we can now incorporate our own motion capture actions as well as capturing facial gestures. It’s still just in the testing phase but the solution looks promising.
